DIGIE SIGIT

This is my weapon for communication and solidarity in public spaces.

Digie Sigit is a multidisciplinary artist who combines visual street art with music as tools for expression and resistance. He studied graphic arts at ISI Yogyakarta and has been actively creating sharp, repetitive and publicly accessible stencil works.

With a background in graphic design, he chose the stencil medium because of its fast and powerful nature for public spaces — similar to traditional visual propaganda but with a contemporary spirit. His works frequently address issues of social justice, human rights, criticism of power structures, capitalism and everyday injustices, while remaining deeply rooted in the local Indonesian context (with Yogyakarta as his creative base).

In the realm of music, he channels the same spirit through Tecknoshit: electronic hardcore band with lyrics of struggle and resistance. These two mediums complement each other — stencil art as the visual “scream” on the streets, and music as the voice that moves people.

Overall, Digie Sigit represents the post-Reformation generation of Yogyakarta artists who view art not as an elite luxury commodity, but as a weapon of communication and solidarity in public space.
